it's been one hundred years since the war that destroyed the world. in that time the world has learned to adapt and grow by forming five factions, each one set to eradicate what they perceived to be the evil that had cause dht problems. for as long as anyone can remember every year the sixteen year olds must go through an aptitude test and a choosing ceremony to decide where they belong. that was until this year. everything can change with one little choice. but will it be for the better or the worst? only time will them that. when more and more children are leaving their born factions people are starting to ask questions. something has to be going on right? something that is making them all defect? what is it though? that's the burning question on everyones mind. that along with the threat that the divergent are responsible. erudite has been releasing reports that seem to be calling out the divergent as the people responsible for forcing the young children to switch factions. it's inciting fear and panic among people who aren't divergent. will the divergent survive this threat? what about the sudden rise in the factionless population? the seemingly endless demand for them to be united as one? all of these things are weighing on the hearts and minds of the denizens of chicago as they cry tears of chaos.Other Information:

So I'm probably just a little well old when it comes to the roleplay world but a trend I've noticed lately is the steady increase of Mary Sue/Gary Stu type characters and the arguments that come with them in terms of if that character actually fits in this category.
It's easy to say that yes a character that seems to be absolutely perfect, and have no flaws is very mary sueish but there's more too it than that. That just tends to be the basis that I think a lot of people go by.
I guess iit's just me but over the last few years I've seen an insurgence of the 'baddass' type characters. You know the ones. the kick-butt female that takes no prisoners. The guy that seems to have almost preternatural speed and skills and bullets bounce of off him, and no I'n not referring to Superman. Not only that but there seems to be an increase of them on sites where this type of character cannot be explained to fit.
I'm not saying that all characters like the ones above are Mary Sue/Gary Stu. They aren't, however, I'd wager that a large portion of them are. They seem to be people that have had the worst possible history and some how became some super "badass" type character in ways that don't even make sense.
Anyways, so the point of this ramble is: Do you have ways that you use to judge a character that seems just too good to be true, and if so what criteria do you use when assessing whether a character fits the Mary Sue/Gary Stu label?
